Retride 60 mg vs the BHB Research: Every Studied Dose, Side by Side

Quick answer

Retride's whole blend is 60 mg of BHB salts per serving. Human studies used 3.75 grams to about 24 grams, roughly 62 to 400 times more. Those gram doses raised blood ketones for 3 to 4 hours but did not add weight loss to a diet. Two of the closest trials were funded by ketone companies, and none tested 60 mg.

The Retride Supplement Facts panel has one active line: a 60 mg proprietary blend of magnesium, calcium and sodium beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB). Every human study of BHB salts we found used grams. This post sets each studied dose beside the 60 mg blend, shows what those doses did, and names who paid for the trials closest to this product.

How big is the gap between 60 mg and the research?

Very big. The smallest BHB salt serving we found studied is 3.75 grams, about 62 times the Retride blend; the largest is about 24 grams, about 400 times. In the chart, each full bar is a studied dose and the sliver is the 60 mg blend, drawn to the same scale.

Retride label amountFull bar = dose used in human studies
Whole blend vs 3.75 g (lowest serving found)

Label: 60 mg. Studied: 3,750 mg per serving, twice a day, in a 3-salt blend. (Nutrients, Stefan 2021, Sodium/calcium/magnesium BHB salt in adolescents)

Whole blend vs 5 g

Label: 60 mg. Studied: 5,000 mg per serving, twice a day, for 8 weeks. (Nutrients, Roeth 2025, BHB salts with a low-calorie diet)

Whole blend vs about 12 g

Label: 60 mg. Studied: about 12,000 mg in one serving. (Frontiers in Physiology, Stubbs 2017, Metabolism of exogenous ketones) (Frontiers in Nutrition, Cuenoud 2020, D-BHB salts pharmacokinetics)

Whole blend vs 24 g a day

Label: 60 mg. Studied: 11.8 g twice a day for 6 weeks. (Frontiers in Nutrition, Buga 2021, Ketone salts and body composition)

These multiples are our arithmetic. The point is not that 60 mg does nothing; it is that no study tells us what 60 mg does, because none tested it.

Salt weight is not BHB weight: The 60 mg on the label is the weight of the salts, mineral included. In one study, 14.1 g of D-BHB salts held 12 g of BHB itself (Frontiers in Nutrition, Cuenoud 2020, D-BHB salts pharmacokinetics), so the BHB inside any salt blend weighs less than the label total.

Which BHB doses did human studies use?

Seven human studies give a BHB salt dose. Here is every one, with how many times larger it is than Retride's 60 mg serving.

No study went below grams. The closest match to this three-salt mix, the adolescent study, still gave 3.75 grams per serving, with leucine, theanine, creatine and B vitamins added. For doses given per kilogram we used a 70 kg (154 lb) adult.

What did those doses do to blood ketones?

They raised blood BHB for a few hours. Ketones rose within minutes, peaked around an hour, and were back to baseline in 3 to 4 hours.

  1. 15 min

    Up fast

After one 3.75 g serving, blood ketones read 0.7 mmol/L at 15 minutes in 6 people.

  2. 1 hour

    The peak

    D-BHB salts peaked near 1.2 mM and a D and L mix near 0.62 mM. The 3.75 g serving read 0.4 mmol/L.

  3. 2.5 hours

    A slow riser

A sodium and calcium DL salt at 0.5 g per kg peaked at 0.598 mmol/L.

  4. 3 to 4 hours

    Back to baseline

D-BHB from 12 g and 24 g drinks returned to where it started.

  5. 8+ hours

    The L half lingers

The L form of BHB in the salt stayed raised for over 8 hours.

Researchers draw the line for nutritional ketosis at blood BHB above 0.5 mmol/L (Frontiers in Nutrition, Skartun 2025, Symptoms when starting a ketogenic diet). So a gram dose can push blood BHB past that line for a short time. That is a brief rise, not the steady ketosis a keto diet brings, and a 2025 review notes that swallowed ketones do not make the liver produce ketones (Nutrition Reviews, Biesiekierska 2025, Ketogenic nutrition and obesity). No study measured blood ketones after 60 mg.

Did any of these doses lead to weight loss?

Not beyond what the diet already did. The two trials that weighed people found no clear added loss from BHB salts.

7.3 kglost with about 24 g a day of salts on a keto diet
8.0 kglost with placebo on the same diet
p = 0.09salts vs placebo after 8 weeks: not significant
0trials of a 60 mg BHB blend

In the 6-week trial, both groups ate the same controlled keto diet, and the salt group did not lose more weight or fat (Frontiers in Nutrition, Buga 2021, Ketone salts and body composition). In the 8-week trial, people on a low-calorie diet lost 3.05 kg with BHB salts and 1.51 kg with placebo, but the gap was not statistically significant, and blood ketones were not measured.

Appetite tells the same story. The studies that lowered hunger used ketone esters at large doses, not salts. The one salt study of food intake found women ate 1,263 calories a day on BHB salts and 1,335 on placebo, with no significant difference. A 2025 review sums it up: exogenous ketones may not directly cause weight loss.

Who paid for the BHB salt studies?

Two of the trials closest to this product were paid for by ketone companies. That does not make them wrong, but it matters when you weigh them.

Sponsor notes for the two trials nearest to a three-salt BHB product
StudyFunding or ties, as reportedWhy it matters
Stefan 2021, adolescentsProduct supplied and funded by Pruvit Ventures; two authors have tiesIt studied ages 10 to 17, so it is no basis for adult claims, and the Retride label says not for anyone under 18
Roeth 2025, low-calorie dietFunded by Ketone Labs; the senior author reports ties to the fieldEven with industry funding, the weight result did not reach significance

We list sponsors only where the source states them. On side effects: at gram doses, one of six adults dropped out of a study because of stomach symptoms (J Nutr Metab, Fischer 2018, Sodium and calcium BHB salt in adults), and a high salt dose caused more gut symptoms than a low one (Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab, Stubbs 2019, GI effects of ketone drinks). Those were grams, not milligrams.

What does the dose gap mean if you buy Retride?

It means you are buying a small, simple capsule, not a studied dose. Retride has never been tested as a product, and the research on its ingredients was done at tens to hundreds of times the amount in the bottle.

  • No study tells you what 60 mg of BHB salts does in the body.
  • Any ketosis on the label's 70/25/5 plan comes from the diet, not the capsules.
  • 60 mg cannot carry a large mineral load, and the stomach upset seen in studies came at grams.
  • Retride is a dietary supplement, not a drug, and it is not FDA approved.
  • The 60-day money-back window is the practical time you have to decide.

Retride 60 mg vs BHB research: FAQ

How much BHB is in Retride?

Each 2-capsule serving holds a 60 mg proprietary blend of magnesium, calcium and sodium BHB. The amount of each salt is not printed, and the BHB itself weighs less than the salt total.

How much BHB per day did studies use?

Human studies of BHB salts used about 7.5 to 24 grams a day, or 3.75 to 24 grams per serving. We found none that tested a dose in milligrams.

Can 60 mg of BHB make a difference?

No one knows, because no study has tested it. It is about 62 to 400 times less than the doses that were studied, so those results cannot be applied to it.

Do BHB salts work?

At gram doses they raise blood ketones for 3 to 4 hours. They did not add weight loss to a keto diet, and an 8-week trial did not show a significant difference from placebo.

Were the BHB salt studies paid for by supplement companies?

Two were. The adolescent study was funded by Pruvit Ventures, and the 8-week low-calorie trial by Ketone Labs.

Magnesium BHB, calcium BHB and sodium BHB: why combine them?

We found no human study of magnesium BHB or calcium BHB on their own, and none comparing a three-salt blend with a single salt. The label does not explain the mix.
