Retride Side Effects: BHB Salts, Keto Flu and Who Faces Real Risk
Quick answer
No side effects of Retride itself have been studied. At gram doses, BHB salts caused stomach upset and loose stools in some people; Retride's whole blend is 60 mg, far less. The keto diet on the label is the bigger source: keto flu, constipation and, for some people, ketoacidosis. Ask a doctor first if you have diabetes or kidney disease.

Does Retride have side effects?
No study has looked for side effects of Retride itself. What is known comes from two places: BHB salts given at far larger doses, and the keto diet the label suggests.
| Where it comes from | Effects reported | How often or how long | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| BHB salt drinks at gram doses | Stomach upset, loose stools, nausea | Mild and short-lived; more at higher doses | (Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab, Stubbs 2019, GI effects of ketone drinks) |
| One large salt dose, 0.5 g per kg | Stomach and gut symptoms | 1 of 6 adults dropped out; 2 more had milder symptoms | (J Nutr Metab, Fischer 2018, Sodium and calcium BHB salt in adults) |
| 5 g salt servings for 8 weeks | Constipation, frequent bowel movements | 3 events in the BHB group | (Nutrients, Roeth 2025, BHB salts with a low-calorie diet) |
| Starting a keto diet | Nausea, diarrhea, constipation | Nausea 8 to 16%, diarrhea 2 to 23%, constipation 1 to 68% | (Frontiers in Nutrition, Skartun 2025, Symptoms when starting a ketogenic diet) |
| Keto flu | Brain fog, fatigue, headache, cramps | Usually 1 to 2 weeks | (Cleveland Clinic, Keto Flu: What It Is and How To Manage It) |
| Keto over the long term | Kidney stones, higher LDL, low fiber and minerals | Possible risks, not certain ones | (Harvard T.H. Chan School, Nutrition Source, Ketogenic diet for weight loss) |
| Retride at 60 mg | None studied | Unknown | No study |
Read the table from the bottom up. The capsule row is empty because nobody has tested it, and the rows above it describe either much bigger doses or the diet.
Which side effects come from the capsule, and which from the diet?
Most come from the diet. Tap each part of the body to see what has been reported, where it comes from, and the study behind it.

Capsule doses and the diet
Stomach and gut
Gram doses of salts loosened stools in some studies. The diet on its own can bring nausea, diarrhea or constipation in the first weeks.
Studied at: Symptom score 13.8 at a high salt dose against 2.0 at a low one.
The diet
Head and energy
Keto flu can bring brain fog, tiredness, headache and muscle cramps a few days after ketosis begins.
Studied at: Agency guidance: usually eases within one to two weeks.
The diet
Kidneys
Kidney stones are a possible long-term risk of keto, and kidney disease raises open safety questions.
Studied at: Agency reviews from Harvard and Mayo Clinic, not trials.
The diet
Heart and cholesterol
In trials of 12 months or more, LDL cholesterol rose more on keto than on low-fat diets (Br J Nutr, Bueno 2013, Very-low-carb keto diet vs low-fat diet (meta-analysis)).
Studied at: 13 randomized trials, 50 g of carbs a day or less.
The diet with some conditions
Blood acid balance
Ketoacidosis is a danger with type 1 diabetes and with SGLT2 inhibitor medicines. It is not the same as diet ketosis.
Studied at: An FDA review of 73 cases, and CDC guidance.
The capsule
Salt and minerals
Studied salt servings carried large mineral loads. The whole Retride blend weighs 60 mg, so it cannot carry much.
Studied at: Up to 1,874 mg of sodium in one 11.8 g serving.
Only two stops on this map, the gut and the minerals, touch the capsule at all, and both effects were seen with gram-level salt doses, not 60 mg.

Do BHB salts cause diarrhea or stomach upset?
They can, at gram doses. In studies the symptoms were mostly mild, faded by the end of each study, and grew with the dose.
A study of 12 g BHB servings also listed some diarrhea, and lower appetite, as its most common effects (Frontiers in Nutrition, Cuenoud 2020, D-BHB salts pharmacokinetics). Retride's whole blend is 60 mg, tens to hundreds of times below these doses, so a large gut effect would be unexpected. It has not been tested, though.
If your stomach does change in the first weeks, look at the diet first. Cutting carbs hard often lowers fiber, and keto starters report constipation and diarrhea with no pill involved. Food choices for a keto plan are covered in our keto diet guide.
Can BHB salts raise blood pressure or your sodium intake?
At studied doses the mineral load is real. At 60 mg it is not: the whole blend weighs less than 3% of the 2,300 mg daily sodium guide, by our arithmetic.
| Product or limit | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Daily sodium guide for adults | Under 2,300 mg | (FDA, Sodium in Your Diet) |
| One 11.8 g BHB salt serving in a 6-week trial | 1,874 mg of sodium | (Frontiers in Nutrition, Buga 2021, Ketone salts and body composition) |
| One 12 g or 24 g salt drink | 1.6 to 3.2 g each of sodium and potassium | (Frontiers in Physiology, Stubbs 2017, Metabolism of exogenous ketones) |
| Magnesium from supplements, adult limit | 350 mg a day | (NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, Magnesium fact sheet) |
| Whole Retride blend, all three salts | 60 mg in total, BHB and minerals together | Label |
Diets high in sodium are linked to high blood pressure, which is why the gram-dose products matter. The capsules are a different case. The mineral side of each salt is covered on the sodium BHB page.
Who could face serious problems?
People for whom a very low carb diet carries real medical risk. For them, the diet printed on the label needs a doctor's input before day one.
Type 1 diabetes
Without enough insulin, ketones can rise to dangerous levels (CDC, Diabetic Ketoacidosis).
SGLT2 inhibitor medicines
The FDA lists a low carbohydrate diet as a possible risk factor for ketoacidosis (FDA Drug Safety Communication, SGLT2 inhibitors and ketoacidosis).
Kidney disease
Check with a health professional before going low-carb (Mayo Clinic, Low-carb diet: Can it help you lose weight?). Harvard calls keto safety with kidney disease an open question.
Pregnancy, nursing, under 18
The label tells all three groups to consult a physician first.
Very fast loss
Losing more than 3 pounds a week for over 4 weeks can cause gallstones (FTC, Gut Check: A Reference Guide for Media on Spotting False Weight Loss Claims).
Long medicine lists
Some blood pressure and diabetes medicines can make keto flu worse. Your pharmacist can check.
A yes-or-no fit check for these groups is on who Retride is for.

Questions about Retride side effects and safety
What are BHB salts side effects?
At gram doses, some people get stomach upset, loose stools or nausea. In studies these were mostly mild and grew with the dose.
Are ketone supplements safe?
Short studies found mostly mild gut effects, but the studies were small and brief. Ask a doctor first if you have diabetes, kidney disease or take several medicines.
Can keto pills cause diarrhea?
Ketone salts did in some studies at doses of several grams. Retride's whole blend is 60 mg, so a strong effect would be unexpected, but it is untested.
Are keto pills safe?
A keto pill is only as safe as its dose and the diet that comes with it. The bigger risks in our sources came from the diet.
Does Retride raise blood pressure?
No study has checked. Its whole blend weighs 60 mg, so it adds little sodium, while studied salt servings carried up to 1,874 mg.
Is the keto diet safe long term?
The long-term picture is unclear. Harvard lists possible kidney stones, higher LDL cholesterol and nutrient gaps, and suggests keto as a short-term start.
Can Retride cause bad breath or constipation?
That has not been shown for the capsule. Both are known effects of very low carb diets, according to Mayo Clinic.
Is Retride safe for the kidneys?
No study has tested it. The capsules carry only 60 mg of blend, but people with kidney disease should ask a doctor before starting the low-carb diet on the label.
